This is a French 9x12cm falling plate detective camera sold under the name L'Ideal-Bernard. Reputable sources say that the camera was actually made by Barby et Compagnie. It was only manufactured for a short time (1903-04) before Barby was liquidated in 1904. There is a brass plate on the side with the name Rudolf Koblischeck on it. It may be a plate with the owner's name or even a store name. The front bottom reads: L'Ideal-Bernard, Nimes-Paris. It comes with 11 plate holders, which have some rust on them. All adjustments are stuck. the shutter functions if manipulated with the front door open. There are scuffs, scratches, and wear marks on its exterior. Its top viewfinder window has been replaced, then broken again. Please see photos. This is an extremely rare camera.
