Original 1947 Associated Press Wire Photo showing former Army Sergeant Earnest D. Wallis, formerly attached to the Los Alamos, New Mexico, atomic bomb project, displaying his composite image comparing the height of the Empire State Building with an atomic bomb mushroom cloud. According to the original AP caption, Wallis created the image to illustrate the scale of the mushroom cloud and displayed it at the Women's Club of Chicago. A fascinating early postwar atomic history photograph.

Measures approximately 8¼ × 8¼ inches overall and is mounted on black paper. The original AP news caption remains attached beneath the photograph. This photo originated from the archives of a newspaper near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Light age-related wear is present to the mount and caption. Please see photos.
