Original 1947 AP Wirephoto showing Chicago fireman Walter Troy with his daughters as he recounts rescuing three-year-old Terry Lee Falk of Joliet, Illinois, from a bear at Brookfield Zoo. According to the original AP caption, Troy heard the child's screams, rushed to the bear enclosure, punched the bear in the nose, and forced it to release Terry, who had been pinned against the outside of the cage while attempting to feed the animal popcorn. Original AP caption is printed directly along the bottom of the photograph. Period tape remains on the corners, and an AP stamp is present on the back. Measures approximately 9 x 6⅝ inches, with expected age and newsroom/archive handling wear. Came from the archive of a Pittsburgh area newspaper.
