Original 1947 AP Wirephoto showing a U.S. Coast Guard rescue of merchant seaman Thomas S. Kozlowski, who was stricken with acute appendicitis while aboard the tug Eugenia M. Moran. According to the original AP caption, a rubber boat carrying Kozlowski is being hauled aboard a Coast Guard aircraft about four miles off New Haven, Connecticut. The plane then transported him to Floyd Bennett Field for transfer to a Marine Hospital. Chief Aviation Pilot Kenneth Canion of Victoria, Texas, flew the aircraft.
