Original 1947 AP Wirephoto showing Dutch marines wading ashore during an amphibious landing on the north coast of East Java, Indonesia. The troops are photographed from aboard a vessel as they move through the water toward shore. According to the original AP caption, the landing took place approximately 80 miles from Soerabaja and the troops met light resistance. The caption is printed directly along the bottom of the photograph and is notably light/faded but remains partially legible. Photo is mounted on black archival paper with period tape and shows age-related wear, including areas of surface/emulsion loss near the edges. Overall size approximately 6⅛ x 8½ inches. Came from the archive of a Pittsburgh area newspaper.
