Original 1947 AP wire photo of Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower and his wife, Mamie, standing before the Alma Mater statue at Columbia University in New York City. The separate typed caption, dated September 11, reports that Eisenhower said in an interview that he would not be party to a draft movement or anything artificial promoting him as a Republican presidential candidate. It adds that he was due to become Columbia's president the following year. The original caption is included with the photograph. Tape remains on the photo's corners, with visible corner wear, small light surface marks in the upper left area, and wear at the lower right corner; examine the images for condition. The photo measures approximately 5½ x 8½ inches. From the archive of a Pittsburgh area newspaper.
