The original caption reports that 52 people were killed and identifies the wreckage visible in the foreground as part of the fuselage. The photograph was made by Lt. George H. Jensen, public relations officer at Bainbridge Naval Training Center and an eyewitness to the crash. The original caption is separate and held to the front of the photograph by one piece of tape. An AP stamp is present on the back. Measures approximately 7¾ x 6½ inches overall. Shows expected age, toning, edge wear and newsroom/archive handling.
