Original 1947 Associated Press Wirephoto showing Jewish refugees from the Exodus immigration movement nearing the end of their journey in postwar Germany. The attached caption identifies a heavily laden Jewish refugee being assisted up wooden steps to a British Army truck behind a barbed wire barricade at the Klocknitz railway station in Germany. The refugees were among those transferred from the Ocean Vigour, one of the transports carrying Exodus immigrants after their arrival in Hamburg in September 1947. This photograph originated from a Pittsburgh-area newspaper archive scrapbook collection. A historically significant image documenting the postwar Jewish refugee crisis, displaced persons camps, British administration, and the events leading up to the establishment of Israel. Measures approximately 6¾" x 9¼". Associated Press Wirephoto stamp on the reverse. Shows age-related wear, toning, light creasing, and evidence of prior newspaper scrapbook mounting and handling.
