October 24, 1947 Associated Press wirephoto of the aftermath of the Bar Harbor, Maine forest fire. A lone figure walks among charred trees, wreckage and smoldering debris in a small vale devastated by the blaze. The AP caption, printed directly beneath the image, says the area was swept by fire the previous day. This unmounted photograph measures approximately 8 x 5⅝ inches and comes from the archive of a Pittsburgh area newspaper. Aged tape remains on the corners, with pieces extending past the edges. There is discoloration and wear around the taped areas, especially at the upper corners. The sky is very light in the original print, while details of the burned landscape remain visible. Light surface scuffs, scratches and edge wear are also present. Please inspect photos for condition.
