Original 1947 AP wire photo showing Providence, Rhode Island machinist and inventor George Coffey demonstrating his talking typewriter. The machine used electrical contacts and a phonograph recorder and reproducer to announce the name of each letter or number as its key was struck. The photo measures approximately 8x6⅜ inches. The separate caption is attached to the bottom of the photo with one piece of tape. Note the tape on the corners and typical newsroom/archive wear. Came from the archive of a Pittsburgh-area newspaper.
