Original 1947 AP Wire Photo capturing jockey Frank D. Adams being thrown from his mount, Escarp, during the third race at the United Hunts Meeting at Belmont Park in New York. The attached AP caption states that Adams suffered a fractured right arm and possible skull fracture in the spill. An excellent action photograph showing horse and rider in mid-crash. Measures approximately 8" x 7". The original AP Wirephoto caption is present but separately attached with tape and is not affixed to the photograph itself. This photograph originated from a large newspaper archive assembled and retained by a Pennsylvania newspaper near Pittsburgh. Shows age-related wear including corner wear, handling marks, light creasing, and remnants of previous mounting consistent with newsroom use and storage. Please see photos.
