Original 1947 AP wire photo showing the four-engine Pan American Airways Clipper Defender at Floyd Bennett Field in New York following an emergency crash landing. The Bermuda flight developed trouble approximately fifty miles from the field, and a fire broke out in its left wing. The fire was quickly extinguished, and the aircraft landed on two engines. The caption is separate from the photograph. Measures approximately 8" × 5¼". Tape remains on the corners, with visible creasing and expected age-related wear. From the archive of a Pittsburgh-area newspaper.
