Original Associated Press wire photo showing rescue workers, firemen, and police gathered around the wreckage of United Air Lines Flight 521, a Douglas DC-4 that crashed during takeoff from LaGuardia Airport in New York on May 29, 1947. The disaster killed 43 of the 48 people aboard. The photo measures approximately 8 × 6½ inches. The original caption is separate and attached below the image with two pieces of tape.
