Original 1947 AP wire photo shows Maj. Gen. William H. Draper Jr. (left) raising his hand as Secretary of War Kenneth Royall reenacts his swearing-in as undersecretary of war. The separate AP caption is taped across the lower front of the photo and dates the Washington scene August 29. It says Draper, of Scarsdale, New York, would become undersecretary of the Army the following month when the armed forces reorganization took effect. An American flag stands between the men as Royall holds a document. Yellowed tape remains at the upper corners and across the caption at the bottom. The print shows light surface marks, warm toning, and edge wear; the caption has creases and small areas of loss near the tape. Measures approximately 8 x 6⅛ inches.
