Original 1947 AP Wire Photo showing 39-year-old Margaret Wilkes lying injured beneath a truck after being struck in downtown Philadelphia. An unidentified man holds her arms while assistance is given at the scene. According to the separate original caption mounted beneath the photograph, freelance photographer Murland Milliner happened to be passing when the accident occurred and captured the scene. Wilkes was taken to Hahnemann Hospital, where physicians reported her condition as "fair." Photograph and caption are mounted on black archival paper and measure approximately 6⅞x6 inches overall. Note the emulsion loss affecting part of the caption and along the bottom of the image, as well as typical newsroom/archive wear. This photo came from the archive of a Pittsburgh area newspaper.
