Original 1947 AP Wire Photo showing a rifle squad firing a memorial volley beside the flag-draped casket of an unidentified Medal of Honor recipient during a massive Central Park tribute to Americans killed in World War II. According to the separate original caption, approximately 150,000 people attended the memorial service. Officials visible at right include Secretary of the Army Kenneth C. Royall, Grover Whalen, Maj. Gen. Harry H. Vaughan, and New York Governor Thomas E. Dewey. The photograph and separate caption are mounted together on black archival paper. Measures approximately 8½x7¼ inches overall.
