This antique Albumen photo Cabinet Card (6½x4¼'') came out of an 1888 Yale University photo album. It features Henry L. Stimson (1867-1950) as a young man. Stimson served as Secretary of War (Twice): He served under William Howard Taft (1911-1913) and later under Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry S. Truman during World War II (1940-1945). As Secretary of War during WWII, he had direct oversight of the Manhattan Project and was a key advisor on the decision to use atomic weapons against Japan. He also served as Secretary of State: Under Herbert Hoover (1929-1933), he authored the Stimson Doctrine, which stated that the U.S. would not recognize international territorial changes achieved by force. Last but not least. He was a primary advocate for holding judicial proceedings for Nazi war criminals, helping to establish the framework for the Nuremberg Trials. Please see photos.
