Original 1/6 plate daguerreotype portrait of a young woman dating to the 1840s, seated beside a stack of books. She wears a dark dress with an ornate lace cape or shawl, and her center-parted hair is styled in smooth side rolls with a braided bun. The portrait is sharply focused with excellent facial detail and pleasing contrast. Housed behind an early oval mat with no brass preserver in a full pressed wood case with embossed floral designs. The front cover exhibits noticeably more wear than the reverse, and both original latches are present. A loose paper slip reading "Andrew J. Graves" accompanies the image, though no connection to the sitter or photographer can be verified. Please see photos.
