This antique 1/6 plate (2¾x3¼") Daguerreotype photo of a lovely Victorian grandmother with hand colored acents is by Jesse H. Whitehurst, a famous American daguerreotypist who operated studios in cities like Richmond, Baltimore, and New York between the 1840s and 1850s. The image comes in a wood composite case. The case is 3¼x3¾x¾'' overall. There are a couple of light scuffs and wear on the exterior of the case. The image has old seals, but not the original ones. Please see photos.
Jesse H. Whitehurst was a pioneer of the "grand gallery" style, famously having his name stamped on the mats of his portraits as a form of branding.
