This early antique Daguerreotype of a Victorian gentleman comes in a 1/6 plate (2¾ 3¼") wood composite case. The case is 3¼x3⅝x¾'' overall. The image has oxidation, and there are a couple of light scuffs and wear on the exterior of the case. The image is not sealed. The hallmark - Asterisk Gaudin DOublé 40. is that of French brothers Alexis Gaudin and Marc Antoine Gaudin, who produced daguerreotype materials in Paris from 1844. Plates were widely exported and popular in America. The most widespread variant is the plate with silver content 40. Please see photos.
