Original Associated Press wire photo captioned July 28, 1947, showing Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Horton, owners and operators of the Grand Theater in Grandview, Missouri, posting a closure notice in memory of Martha E. Truman, mother of President Harry S. Truman. The caption states that shows were suspended Sunday and Monday following her death at home Saturday, with funeral rites scheduled for Monday. The sign reads "Closed Sun + Mon In Respect Mother Truman." Measures 6¼ x 8⅜ inches overall, with the caption printed directly on the photo. Tape remains on the corners, with yellowing and discoloration, surface scuffs and scratches, edge wear, and a small patch of emulsion loss near the upper right corner. From the archive of a Pittsburgh-area newspaper. See photos for condition.
