According to the original AP caption, winds gusting up to 75 miles per hour swept through the Minneapolis-St. Paul area on June 28, 1947. The twin-engine transport aircraft shown here was blown down a runway, and its tail struck an automobile, flipping the vehicle upside down before the aircraft came to rest. Several other airplanes at Minneapolis and nearby airports reportedly sustained damage during the storm. The original AP Wirephoto caption remains attached beneath the image. This photograph originated from a large newspaper archive assembled and retained by a Pennsylvania newspaper near Pittsburgh. Mounted on black scrapbook paper from the archive.
