1947 AP wire photo shows Pfc. Delbert Price, 24, of Charleston, West Virginia, describing to Major Earle F. Paxson how four psychiatric patients escaped from a ward at Letterman Hospital in San Francisco. The April 27 caption says the men threatened Price with a knife and a piece of pipe, forced him to strip, then bound and gagged him before fleeing. Paxson, the hospital's adjutant, listens across a desk covered with paperwork. The caption lists him as from Orlando, Florida. The separate typed caption and photograph are mounted together on black archival paper. Overall size is 7¾ x 6¾ inches. From the archive of a Pittsburgh area newspaper. The print has light surface marks and minor edge wear; the caption is faint but largely legible.
