Original 1947 AP Wirephoto showing famed polar explorer Admiral Richard E. Byrd kissing his daughter Katherine following her marriage to Robert Garnett Breyer of Los Angeles. The wedding took place in an informal ceremony at the Byrd home in Boston. Breyer, shown at right in military uniform, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert S. Breyer of Houston, Texas. The original AP caption is taped directly to the bottom of the photograph and has been cut off along its lower edge, though the principal identification and event information remain readable. Photograph shows expected age, surface marks and newsroom handling wear. Overall size approximately 8½ x 7 inches. Came from the archive of a Pittsburgh area newspaper.
