Original 1947 AP Wire Photo showing Jindrich Hlavka, an armless graduate of the State Institution for Handicapped Children in Brno, Czechoslovakia, demonstrating his ability to write on a blackboard using his foot during a visit to the Spalding School for Crippled Children in Chicago. Also pictured is Billy Richards, an armless child who had been without arms since birth. According to the original AP caption, Hlavka lost his arms in an accident at age eight and visited the school to demonstrate his talents. Measures approximately 9¾" x 8". This photograph originated from a large newspaper archive assembled and retained by a Pennsylvania newspaper near Pittsburgh. Original AP caption remains affixed to the mount.
