Original 1947 AP Wirephoto showing Capitol policeman Pvt. Paul G. Shelby with a man identified as Clifton R. Spires, 39, of Augusta, Georgia, after Spires was arrested in the Senate wing of the U.S. Capitol. According to the caption, officers searched him and found a .25-caliber automatic. The arrest occurred about five minutes after President Harry S. Truman left the Capitol. Caption is separate from the photograph and mounted below it on black archival paper. A very faint AP stamp is present on the back. Came from the archive of a Pittsburgh area newspaper.
