Original 1947 AP wire photo capturing a Coast Guard helicopter diving moments before crashing during a demonstration for high school students at Floyd Bennett Field in New York. The helicopter struck the ground and lost its tail assembly, but pilot Lieutenant Junior Grade David Gershowitz managed to lift it back into the air before crash-landing on a nearby hangar apron.
