Original 1947 AP Wirephoto showing Pennsylvania Railroad employees using acetylene torches to cut through the steel doors of a suburban train cab to recover the body of the motorman after a fatal crash in West Philadelphia. According to the printed caption, the commuter train rammed a locomotive, killing the motorman and injuring at least 20 people. The wreck blocked the Pennsylvania Railroad's New York and suburban tracks for more than an hour. Caption is printed directly on the photograph. Measures approximately 6⅛ x 8¾ inches. Shows typical age, handling wear and newsroom/archive use as pictured. This came from the archive of a Pittsburgh area newspaper. Particularly grim railroad disaster and recovery scene.
