Original 1947 AP Wirephoto showing Los Angeles letter carrier Harold Gerber, 39, climbing steep Fargo Street Hill while making his postal rounds during 95-degree heat. According to the original AP caption, Gerber had 10 such hills on his route, and this particular grade had a 32 percent incline. He had spent the previous nine years of his 21-year postal career working the same rugged route. The original AP caption is printed directly along the bottom of the photograph. Photo is mounted on black archival paper with period tape and shows expected age, surface wear and newsroom/archive handling. Overall size approximately 7¼ x 9¼ inches.
