Original 1947 AP Wirephoto showing Los Angeles letter carrier Harold Gerber, 39, climbing steep Fargo Street Hill while making his postal rounds during 95-degree heat. According to the original AP caption, Gerber had 10 such hills on his route, and this particular grade had a 32 percent incline. He had spent the previous nine years of his 21-year postal career working the same rugged route. The original AP caption is printed directly along the bottom of the photograph.
