Original 1947 AP Wirephoto showing Memphis patrolman J. E. Jolly covered with bees after helping save a Cotton Carnival band concert in Court Square. According to the original AP caption, thousands of bees descended on the concert and sent the crowd scattering, but Jolly, described as a policeman who "knows his bees," stepped in and persuaded the queen bee and swarm into a nearby tree. He reportedly suffered only six stings. Original AP caption is printed directly along the bottom of the photograph. Measures approximately 5⅝ x 8⅞ inches and shows expected age, surface wear and newsroom/archive handling. Came from the archive of a Pittsburgh area newspaper.
