1947 AP wire photo records the lowering of the American flag on Corregidor in Manila Bay as the island was transferred to the Philippine Republic. The printed caption says American and Philippine soldiers and civilians stood at attention on October 12 as the Stars and Stripes came down there for the second time in 50 years. Some present had witnessed Japanese forces burn the flag on May 6, 1942. The image shows a crowd saluting beneath the flagpole; AP transmitted the Army Signal Corps photograph. Caption is printed directly on the photo. Size is 6½ x 8⅞ inches. From the archive of a Pittsburgh area newspaper. Tape is present at the corners, with age toning, light scuffs and minor emulsion loss around the edges. The caption is somewhat faint but legible. See photos for condition.
