Original 1947 AP wire photo shows Hollywood pilot Paul Mantz standing on his P-51 Mustang and speaking to newsmen after winning the Bendix Trophy Race. Spectators crowd around the aircraft at Cleveland Municipal Airport on August 30, with packed grandstands behind it. The separate AP caption is mounted below the photo on the same piece of black archival paper. The photo's top edge is curled and wrinkled, especially toward the right, with a small tear descending from the upper edge near center. Aged tape is visible at the corners, and the print shows warm toning, scattered surface marks, and edge wear. Despite its light overall tone, Mantz, the Mustang, and the crowd remain visible. Overall mounted size approximately 8¾ x 7½ inches. From the archive of a Pittsburgh area newspaper.
