According to the original caption, 14 freight cars were derailed, creating a tangled pile of overturned and crushed rail cars. No one was injured, but the wreck disrupted rail traffic between Denver and Cheyenne, Wyoming, for several hours. The separate original caption and photograph are both mounted on the same piece of black archival paper. Overall size measures approximately 8⅝ x 7¼ inches.
