Original 1947 Associated Press wire photo documenting the aftermath of the deadly airliner crash near Port Deposit, Maryland, on May 30, 1947. Three sailors serving with a rescue squad examine papers recovered from the scattered wreckage while torn pieces of passengers' clothing hang from the trees above them, illustrating the tremendous force of the impact. The crash killed all 53 people aboard and was among the deadliest aviation disasters in the United States at that time. The original caption is separate from the photo, but both have been mounted together on a narrow strip of black archival paper. Please note the tape on the corners, uneven mounting, creasing, discoloration, and general wear from age and newspaper use. The photo measures approximately 5½ x 8⅞ inches. From the archive of a Pittsburgh-area newspaper.
