Original 1947 AP Wirephoto showing a massive crowd of children at an artificial snow party in San Francisco. According to the original AP caption, many of the children had never seen snow before and joined in snow fights after ice was ground up for the event, sponsored by a San Francisco newspaper and the city park department. Thousands packed the park and the gathering reportedly became so violent that police were called to restore order; two adults and 30 children were hospitalized for injuries. The original caption is typed on a separate paper strip and taped to the bottom of the photograph, with additional period tape visible. Measures approximately 7 x 6⅜ inches. Came from the archive of a Pittsburgh area newspaper.
