Original 1947 Associated Press wire photo showing San Francisco honoring America's World War II dead with flag-draped caskets lying in state at City Hall. An honor guard representing all branches of the armed forces stands watch as senior military leaders, including General Mark Clark and Rear Admirals W.K. Scammell and D.B. Beary, pay their respects. The caskets contained the remains of servicemen returned aboard the funeral ship Honda Knot. Mounted on black archival paper with the original AP caption printed directly on the photograph. Overall mounted size is approximately 9½ x 16¾ inches. Light handling wear, minor corner wear, and a few small surface marks consistent with age. From the archive of a Pittsburgh area newspaper.
