According to the caption printed directly on the photograph, the procession formed part of the city's tribute to American World War II dead returned from Europe aboard the Army transport Joseph V. Connolly. The ship arrived carrying approximately 6,200 dead for reburial in U.S. military cemeteries. Measures approximately 6x8½ inches. AP stamp on the back.
