Original 1947 AP Wirephoto showing the wreckage of a Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad freight train near Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, on April 28. Ten cars of the 55-car freight train derailed at Forge Cut, about one mile east of town, spilling new automobiles, machinery and meat in a tangled mass across two tracks. The dramatic aerial view shows multiple freight cars piled into the rocky cut as crews and onlookers gather above the wreckage. No injuries were reported. The original caption is printed directly on the photograph, which is mounted on black archival paper. Measures approximately 6¾ x 8⅞ inches overall. Shows expected age and newsroom/archive wear. This photo came from the archive of a Pittsburgh area newspaper.
