Original 1947 AP wire photo showing fifteen-year-old Shirley Campbell of Venice Beach, California, with eighteen-year-old Eugene Harp of Pueblo, Colorado. Campbell had been jailed after the young couple attempted to obtain a marriage license, but was released on a habeas corpus writ after a judge ruled that she could not be jailed simply for being in love. The caption is separate from the photograph, with both mounted on the same piece of paper. Overall size measures approximately 6" × 8¼". Visible tape, emulsion loss, and expected age-related wear.
