Original Associated Press wire photo dated July 8, 1947, showing an operator at one of Western Union's new push-button telegraph switchboards in Philadelphia. The caption describes the installation as part of a 2 million dollar system and states that the new system would greatly increase message-handling capacity. The original AP caption is separate and attached to the bottom of the photograph with one piece of tape. Measures approximately 8⅛ × 6½ inches. Shows tape at the corners and light handling wear consistent with newsroom/archive use. This photograph came from the archive of a Pittsburgh area newspaper. Please review pictures carefully for condition and details.
