Original 1947 Associated Press Wire Photo showing members of the Women's Organization to War on Styles (WOWS) picketing a dress shop in Berkeley, California. According to the attached AP caption, the group protested longer skirts and padded hips, carrying signs including "Do We Need Padding?" and "United We Stand Divided They Fall." The participants were identified as wives of GI students attending the University of California. An unusual and humorous postwar fashion history image documenting public reaction to changing women's clothing styles in the late 1940s. From the archive of a Pittsburgh-area newspaper. Measures approximately 8½" x 7¾". Shows expected age-related wear, newsroom handling marks, toning, and mounting remnants. Please see photos.
