This antique Albumen photo Cabinet Card (6½x4¼'') came out of an 1888 Yale University photo album. It features Edward John Phelps (1822-1900), a distinguished American lawyer and diplomat from Vermont. He also served as the U.S. Minister to Great Britain (Envoy to the Court of St. James's) from 1885 to 1889 under President Grover Cleveland. He was also a co-founder of the American Bar Association (ABA). He later taught law at prestigious institutions, including Yale Law School, the University of Vermont, and Boston University.
