Original sixth plate daguerreotype portrait of a Victorian woman dating to the 1860s. She is shown with a center-parted hairstyle gathered into decorative side hair nets, wearing a dark silk dress with full gathered sleeves, an ornate white lace collar, and a brooch at the neckline. The portrait retains subtle hand tinting to her cheeks. It is housed behind a later decorative brass mat and brass preserver. The image displays light edge tarnish and scattered age-related discoloration typical of daguerreotypes, while remaining sharp with excellent detail. This example does not include a case and has been professionally resealed for long-term preservation. A well-preserved larger-format Civil War-era daguerreotype with an appealing composition and outstanding period detail. Please see photos.
