Original 1947 Associated Press Wire Photo showing the aftermath of a collision between the Alton-Burlington Zephyr streamliner and a Missouri-Kansas-Texas freight train at a crossing in Higbee, Missouri. The original AP caption states that the eastbound Zephyr plowed through the northbound freight, overturning one freight car, derailing two others, and leaving the Zephyr locomotive off the tracks. Engineer Ed Donohew, 70, suffered minor head injuries and was the only reported casualty. The photograph measures approximately 8¼ x 8⅝ inches overall and is mounted on black archival paper with the original caption affixed below the image. From the archive of a Pittsburgh area newspaper.
