Original 1947 Associated Press Wire Photo showing a major waterfront fire at Pier 8 in Brooklyn, New York. The attached caption states that smoke billowed from the pier as fireboats battled a five-alarm blaze that destroyed the pier and damaged the freighter Rio Parana. The vessel was later towed into the East River where flames aboard ship were extinguished. Police estimated damage to the pier and its cargo at $1,500,000. This photograph originated from a Pittsburgh-area newspaper archive scrapbook collection. Measures approximately 7⅜" x 5¼".
