The image features race driver Sonny Ebsen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa during a serious crash at the Minnesota State Fair racetrack in St. Paul on September 1, 1947. According to the original AP caption, Ebsen's car became airborne after contact with another vehicle before overturning beside him. An excellent action image capturing both the accident and its immediate aftermath. The original AP caption remains attached beneath the photograph. This photograph originated from a large newspaper archive assembled and retained by a Pennsylvania newspaper near Pittsburgh.
