The image shows 15-year-old Richard Schultz posing with his damaged bicycle in front of the wreckage of a United Air Lines DC-4 near LaGuardia Field in New York. According to the original attached caption, Schultz narrowly escaped death when the airliner crashed only moments after he had left his bicycle near the crash site. The photograph remains mounted to its original black newspaper backing with the original AP caption attached below the image. Moderate age-related wear, handling marks, and mounting wear are present.
