According to the separate original caption, nine of the aircraft's 11 crew members were killed when the B-29 crashed into dense woods about 200 yards from the runway immediately after takeoff on a routine training flight. The image is identified as an official Air Proving Ground Command photograph. Photograph and separate caption are mounted on black archival paper. Measures approximately 7⅝x7⅝ inches overall. Note the tape on the corners, visible emulsion loss, and typical newsroom/archive handling wear. This photo came from the archive of a Pittsburgh area newspaper.
