Original 1947 Associated Press wire photo showing Army soldier Michael DiBartolo of Roxbury, Massachusetts, being kissed by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph DiBartolo, at Governors Island in New York. DiBartolo had once faced a life sentence for desertion but was awaiting an honorable discharge from the Army. According to the caption, a new review board would not be held because there was insufficient time to prepare another trial. The caption is printed directly on the photo. Measures approximately 8½ by 6½ inches. Please note the vintage tape on the corners, along with creasing, edge wear, and surface wear. From the archive of a Pittsburgh-area newspaper.
