Original 1947 AP Wirephoto showing warehouses ablaze at the harbor yard in Probolinggo on the northeast coast of Java, with an oil storage tank at left threatened by the intense fire. The original caption notes that the image was transmitted by radio from Singapore to London and then retransmitted by radio to New York. Because of this long-distance 1947 transmission process, the photograph has noticeably low image quality, coarse detail and tonal loss characteristic of early wire transmission. The original caption is separate and taped to the bottom of the photo. An AP stamp is present on the back. Measures approximately 7⅞ x 5¼ inches. Shows tape, age and newsroom/archive wear.
